Sports cars are vehicles that typically have two seats and two doors. When one thinks of a sports car they think about the joy of driving it and the “cool” look that others will perceive. When you look at a sports car you know that the beautiful piece of machinery in front of you is to be driven just for the sheer joy of driving. A few well known sports cars are a Ferrari, Porsche, Lotus or Lamborghini. The term “sports car” wasn’t used until after World War One, however the first true sports car was the 1910 Vauxhall. The drive train and engine layout haven’t changed much over the years in sports cars. If you are looking for improved handling other layouts are sometimes used. Four wheel drive wasn’t used much in sports cars until the 80’s. Nowadays four wheel drive is not uncommon in high powered sports cars. Sports cars are typically for single people or couples without children.

A few manufacturers sought to increase the practicality of their vehicles by increasing the seating room, however they aren’t conventional methods. One design was to allow two full sized passenger seats on each side of the driver seat with the driver seat set in the center of the car. This idea was originally for the Lamborghini Miura but declined due to the difficulty to the driver in entering and exiting the vehicle.
