Auto Racing

The sport of auto racing is one of the world’s most watched television sports. Once vehicles were invented it didn’t take long for racing to begin. There are many different types of auto racing; stock car racing, drag racing, sport car racing, off-road racing, kart racing, rally racing and targa racing. The first auto race in the United States took place in Illinois in 1895. During this time France dominated the auto construction and racing world. The French automotive club held very popular international races. However these races were ended in 1903 when nine fatalities caused the French government to ban open-road racing. Stock car racing is one of the most popular sports in the United States; it’s also popular in UK and Europe. Stock cars race typically on oval tracks. NASCAR is the largest stock car racing governing body. Drag racing gained popularity in the United States after World d War two. By 2009 there were hundreds of drag strips in operation. Drag racing is a competition where vehicles compete to be the first to cross the finish line, usually racing just a ¼ mile or 1,320 feet.

There have been many advances in Drag racing through the years from V8 motors that make 8000hp. Down to sports compact 4 cylinder Honda motors that produce 1000hp. Kart racing is one of the cheapest ways to go racing. Karting, availiable at Online Games, is commonly perceived as the stepping stone to more expensive forms of racing. Historical racing is for the hobbyist, geared towards particular eras. Events are coordinated to allow only cars of certain eras to participate. Historical racing has several professional teams but the majority of those who participate are wealthy car owners. Due to that fact historical racing is seen as more amateur and laid back rather than full on racing. Rally racing involves two classes of cars. Rallying is known for not running on a circuit and dates back to 1894.
